Hereford

County town of Herefordshire, Hereford (/ˈhɛrɪfərd/) is a civil parish and cathedral city. Meaning "old road", the Welsh name for Hereford is Henffordd, and refers to the settlement that is Roman and Roman road at Stretton Sugwas nearby. Some time between AD 688 and 676, after which, due to Wales and Mercia border proximity, continued to grow was the settlement, becoming the West Mercia Saxon capital by the 8th century beginning, Hereford became the seat of Putta, Bishop of Hereford.

On Welsh Marches Line which opened in 1854, Hereford is served by a 4-platform railway station. Hereford Rugby Club in 2012, announced plans for a move of £6 million to a home that is new. Close to the River Lugg in a rural location that is very attractive, a few miles to the east of the Hereford in the village of Lugwardine, the school primarily serves the Catholic Communities of Herefordshire.

Opened on the site in August 2011 just outside the city, the new Hereford Cattle Market has proved so successful that business and trading on the previous site's record is up. In the centre of High Town in Hereford, Hereford is a historic house the Old House.

When, Gwynedd and Powys King, Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, supported by Viking allies, before returning home, marched and put the town to the torch, Hereford during their conflict with Edward the Confessor, the Anglo-Saxon King, was targeted by the Welsh in AD 1056. With a Higher Education centre on College Road in the former buildings of the Royal National College for the Blind, Hereford College of Arts is a publicly funded art school on Folly Lane.

With the former County Hospital site having £60 million spent on a brand new hospital to replace the former hospitals: the General, the Eye Hospital, and the County Hospital, Hereford benefitted from, for NHS hospitals, the PFI schemes of reconstruction. In Herefordshire, the Hereford County Hospital was the single largest investment at that point.

Hereford is home of Hereford FC, football club, and they play in the National League North at Edgar Street. With teams in Hockey Association West entered into leagues, Hereford Hockey Club is at the Hereford City Sports Club. Known as Hereford College of Technology, Herefordshire and Ludlow College (HLC) - The Folly Lane facility includes a centre for the University of Worcester.
